A History of Liberty Party Rental

It all started in 1984 when Don and Leona Jay took a leap of faith and decided to open their own business using their retirement savings.

Having a previous 25 years of experience in textiles, Don Jay wanted to focus his business on linen rental for parties throughout the Nashville area. The Jays opened Liberty, a retail party store, and acquired an existing rental store in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Six years later, after continual growth and the addition of a diverse rental inventory, Liberty moved to a larger location at City Square Plaza in Hendersonville. Long-time Liberty customers will remember this location with the retail division on the top level and the rental showroom on the lower level.

Frame tents became hugely popular in the late 1990s and Liberty was one of the exclusive companies in the Middle Tennessee area to stock this desired type of tent. From high-end residential dinner parties to corporate functions with guest counts over 1,500, Liberty had quickly become the preferred choice for arranging an event.

With the rental aspect of the business booming, the Jays decided to sell their retail division of the company in 2000. Then in 2002, the Jays sold Liberty to long-time employee Bruce Hurst. After Bruce acquired the business, the name was officially changed to Liberty Party Rental, Inc..

In March 2008, Liberty Party Rental moved its headquarters to a location off Saundersville Road, staying in Hendersonville. Tremendous growth brought a need for a brand new, larger warehouse in 2012, and Liberty Party Rental moved just a few buildings up the hill.

The Green Hills Design Center formally opened in August 2012, satisfying a requirement for a showroom in Davidson County. A third showroom was then opened in April 2015 in the Wedgewood area of Nashville, dubbed as the Loft at Houston Station.

Growth demanded a second warehouse be opened closer to Downtown Nashville with additional space for continually expanding inventory. The North Nashville warehouse, near Trinity Lane, was opened in the late summer of 2015. This facility operates as the main rental warehouse and is also the location for customer will-call pickups. The Hendersonville warehouse continued to house the tenting and flooring division, as well as linen processing and Sumner County showroom.

In April 2018, Bruce sold Liberty Party Rental to CE Rental, based out of Raleigh, NC. This acquisition would allow for continued growth. CE Rental also acquired the assets of the Nashville location of Marquee Event Rentals in June of 2018, increasing the inventory of Liberty.

With this increase of inventory and staff, the decision to close the Hendersonville warehouse and open a much larger warehouse was made. Luckily, Liberty was able to secure the building next to its current Nashville warehouse. With 90,000 sq ft of space, 444 Brick Church Park Drive is now the main office for Liberty Party Rental and houses all their inventory.

Both the Houston Station and Green Hills location have been combined into a new Belle Meade showroom at the Cavalier Building. The Hendersonville showroom has relocated to the Hazel Path Commons shopping center.

Our history is just a tiny detail you’ll notice that sets us apart from the rest; however, the most vital piece of Liberty Party Rental’s foundation is their professional, creative and dependable team of staff touting over 175 years of collective rental experience and exemplary customer service skills.
